Travelling thru sweet morainic hills, between alternating wooded slopes and cured and ordered landscapes, between orchards and vineyards pleasantly sloping down in the Po plain, the "Olfino" Restaurant is worth a stop. An intelligent stop and interesting indeed, a pause of reflection to understand the local gastronomy traditions that forgiveness in the time and that also are enriched from the ability, the experience and a constant and meticulous search of excellence.
The Restaurant “Olfino” is located exactly to Olfino, in the municipality of Monzambano, along the road between Peschiera of the Garda and Volta Mantovana. At first sight it is a typical trattoria, delightful indeed, relaxant and of great suggestion, absolutely voted to the slow-food, with a most pleasant summery garden (and a great fireplace in kitchen, in order not to leave nothing the case). But it is not “only” this. The warmth, the kindness and the great competence of the brothers Alberto and Federica and the mother Eugenia, excellent cook indeed, make the difference in the conduction of this activity been born in first years Twenty: four generations of a cousine of great level, making own hosts to feel “at one's ease”.
A smart choice of apetizers, careful to the tradition but also to the tendencies and indications of nowadays, proposes “luccio in sauce with polenta”, a splendid one “lardo with polenta”, an unusual peculiar “salame and gorgonzola with polenta”…and other varity of delicatessen.
Alberto is proud to propose the rich choice of homemade pasta, the real speciality of the restaurant, created by the skilled hands of mother Eugenia.
The fireplace is almost always ready to prepare several kind of grilled meats included the chicken, famous speciality of the area.
How to forget the savoury roasts or the tender guinea hen? And among the second courses of fish dishes the Salt Cod served in a creamed light sauce of tomato with slices of Grilled Polenta, the Filet of Trout grilled, the Filet of Salmon…
During the winter season it is possible to find the mixed "bollito" (boiled meat such as beef, tongue and "cotechino" - kind of big boiled pork sausage) served with an original local sauce "pearà" (basically stale bread, marrow, butter/olive oil, pepper, cheese slowly cooked with broth).
A great variety of cheeses, served with mustard, honey or balsamic vinegar are the choice suggested before the desserts.
And the desserts? Well, the desserts… most are original and homemade, and of course spectacular from "tiramisù" – with an interesting variation with coconuts – thru the "dolce della nonna", from delicious mousses thru several kind of cakes…
Regarding the cellar, Alberto is always ready to suggest the correct wine among a wide valid choice of local and national productors.
